Oregon Peace Institute Condemns Atlanta Murders

The Oregon Peace Institute is horrified and outraged at the wanton murders of eight human beings at massage facilities in Atlanta, Georgia. We offer all possible sympathies and support to the families and friends of the victims of these despicable acts of hatred and violence against other people who were not threatening or committing violence. The racial targeting made that motive clear, despite any claims to the contrary, and the same is true for gender.

These murders are not isolated acts. White supremacy, patriarchy, and targeted anti-Asian hate speech in the context of the Coronavirus leave vulnerable members of our communities even more exposed. We advocate early education, social safety net strengthening, and the skills of peacemaking and inclusion taught at every level to begin to address aspects of this and other attacks on our fellow human beings.

You can find additional resources on violence against Asian Americans from Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance https://docs.google.com/…/1fs57dkNG…/edit.

Femicide is a horrific and growing problem globally and we urge all fellow humans to learn more, do more, to stop and reverse this tragic trend.
