Save Our Youth

OPI was the fiscal agent for this program in the mid-1990’s, before it became independent. It started off as a summer program. Here’s the blurb from the Multnomah County Juvenile Community Justice Program, which now does SOY:

Save Our Youth is a four-day, family oriented, collaborative effort between Multnomah County Department of Juvenile and Adult Community justice, Legacy Emanuel Trauma Center, Oregon Peace Institute, Portland Public Schools and Portland State University to address the problems of weapons and violence. Save Our Youth teaches skills necessary to deal with conflict in constructive ways (including conflict learned through mass media, racism or family practices). SOY is designed for youth in middle school through high school.
